FAQ
Q. Are the treatments and information given to the therapist confidential?
A. All information is kept strictly confidential; written information is kept in a locked box.
Q. What do I wear for a treatment?
A. Wear something loose and comfortable that you can sit or stand in. Tights, socks, stockings and certain types of toe/finger jewellery will need to be removed.
Q. What happens during a treatment?
A. Initial treatment begins with a thorough consultation, which takes 10-15 minutes. The remainder of the session will comprise working your hands or feet in a firm and soothing manner.
Q. Where will the treatment take place?
A. ALL initial treatments take place at the clinic. Thereafter, treatments occur either at the clinic or in your own home. You will sit in a comfortable reclining chair in the clinic or on your own sofa at home. Occasionally, you may be required to stand if your therapist feels you would benefit from Vertical Reflex Therapy.
Q. Can I have a treatment if I have a medical condition?
A. Reflexology improves many medical conditions. In some cases, a doctor/midwife/consultant may need to be consulted. Your therapist will advise you over the telephone or in person as to whether s/he can treat you.
Q. Can I do anything else to be better prepared for the treatment?
A. Yes, drink a sufficient amount of water so that you are hydrated. Drink approximately 6-8 tumbler glasses the day before, the day of, and the day after treatment.
Q. I don’t like my feet being touched. Is there anything that can be done?
A. Yes. Your hands are just as important and can be worked instead.
Q. Is the treatment on the feet ticklish?
A. No. The pressure is slow, firm and deliberate. The term reflexologists use is “thumb walking.” Their thumbs and fingers go over your feet or hands in a caterpillar-like movements.
Q. Should I use reflexology instead of seeing my GP for a condition?
A. NO. Always consult your health care professional if you have any concerns about your health.
Q. Is reflexology just for women?
A. NO. Reflexology works well for men, women, children, teenagers, babies, elderly, disabled, and pregnant women.
Q. How many treatments do I need to have to see an improvement in my present condition?
A. It depends. For something acute like a headache, you can feel an improvement within 20 minutes. More chronic conditions can take 6 to 10 treatments before significant developments are experienced.
Q. I have private health insurance. Can I use that?
A. Yes, you just need to contact your company. They normally have a list. AOR (Association of Reflexologists) and IIR (International Institute of Reflexologists) should be on that list.
Q. What should I do after a treatment?
A. After treatment, continue to rest, relax and drink plenty of water. Abstain from alcohol. Normal daily tasks and activities are fine, though it is advisable to avoid anything arduous.
Q. How often should I have my treatments?
A. The general rule of thumb is weekly, mainly due to practicalities and finances. That said, some clients respond very well to little and often, while others respond very quickly to a course of daily treatments for 10 days.
Q. Can I do anything at home to help myself?
A. Yes. Your therapist will show you some exercises and movements you can do at home in between sessions.
Q. Is the treatment a routine that is done for everyone?
A. No. Each person has a specific treatment designed for him/her after a thorough consultation.
